Allagoptera Arenaria. Seashore Palm.
The Allagoptera Arenaria is a very pretty palm. Elegantly arching pinnate leaves, bright green on the upper surface and a silvery colour underneath with leaflets curling in varying degrees, are between 2-6ft long and come from a branching subteranean trunk that is rarely visible. Edible fruits are yellowish green to orange in colour and are shaped like small coconuts.Slow growing when young, it's growth rate speeds up a little as it matures, it is tolerant of poor soils, salt spray and coastal conditions. Commonly known as the Seashore Palm this attractive looking palm is great for growing in planters and perfect for greenhouses and bright conservatories.Winter protection is necessary.
