Bucaneer Palm
The Pseudophoenix Sargentii or Bucaneer Palm is a medium size and slow growing palm. Solitary trunked, it is greyish-green with closely set leaf scar rings when young but turning grey as it matures. A slight bulge is present at around the halfway point. The crown, which is not often completely spherical consists of between 8-16 elegantly arching pinnate leaves up to 7ft long. Bluish-green in color with over 100 leaflets growing on slightly different planes it is a very handsome palm. The crown shaft is smooth and waxy, bluish-greenish in color. No spines are present. One of the most salt and wind tolerant of all palms, however it is now endangered in its natural habitat. Suited to growing in containers outside in summer, but winter protection is necessary.

Native to: Florida Keys, Eastern Mexico, Northern Caribbean, Bahamas.

Hardiness: Frost tender.

Growth Characteristics: Very Handsome palm, with pinnate greenish-blue arching leathery leaves up to 10ft long. No spines present. Maximum total height of 10-15ft. Inflorescence is 3-4ft long and develops among the leaves with yellow flowers. Highly salt tolerant.

Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade.

Exposure: Sheltered.

Soil: Moist well drained soil.

Moisture: Water regularly through summer, less in winter.
